African Drumming (for adults): Wednesday 6:30-7:30pm

Instructor: Colmey

This class is for adults only, and focuses on indigenous drumming styles of West Africa.  Concepts covered include all the basics of hand drumming including tone, bass, slap and muffle strokes, instruction on various rhythms of the Ewe people, ensemble playing, call and response, improvisation, the role of rhythms in African societies, and introduction to other percussive instruments including the bell, shaker, karimba.  Drums are provided for in class use.  Gary’s Music provides student discounted drums to those that are interested in owning their own drum.  Ages 18 & up.

Price: $75.  Class is 1.0 hours long and meets once a week.

Understand the basics of how sound works, and how to capture it with a microphone and computer.  In this class, we will cover hat sound is, how it works, and how to record your own audio and input it into your computer.  We will then discuss basic properties of recording,  mixing, effects, mastering, transferring to a CD, and conversion to other file formats such as mp3, wav, wma, and so on. 

Students may get the possibility to assist with a live recording session in a studio.

This popular course is open to both the absolute beginner, and those who have been playing a while, but need to be refreshed on the basics of guitar playing.  We will cover tuning, proper technique, strumming patterns, scales, chord patterns, and more.  We will also learn popular songs, and play as a group.

Understand the basics of music theory in this condensed, straight forward course.  You will learn how to read and interpret any piece of music as we will cover the basic principles of rhythm, pitch, intervals, key signatures, time signatures and so on.

This course is perfect for those who love acoustic folk, bluegrass, americana, reggae and swing.  Instructor Jerry Deschavio, bassist/vocalist for the popular groups "Rusty Doves" and "The High Steppers" will instruct students in the art of playing acoustic music in all shapes and sizes.  Special guest artists will come by to sit in, perform for the class, and help students along.

Open to all instrumentalists.  Great for guitar players, bassists, saxophone, flautists, clarintetists, strings, piano, vocalists, banjo, percussionists and more.

Price: $75.  Class is 1.0 hours long and meets once a week.

Rock Ensemble: Tuesdays 7:00-8:30pm

Space is extremely limited, and an audition may be necessary in some cases.  Please note that registration for this course does not automatically place you in the group.  If a situation arises where there are too many signups for one particular instrument, an audition will be held.  Those who don't pass the audition will be wait listed until another spot or class opens up.

This popular ensemble focuses on playing in a rock band.  Concepts covered include learning to perform in various styles of rock music such as classic rock, modern rock, punk, funk, blues and more.  Students will also learn how to understand their role in a group situation.  

At the conclusion of this course, students may get the chance to perform live at a venue in front of an audience, or get studio recording time.  Students must own their own instrument.  

Equipment such as amplifiers, drums, keyboards, microphones and PA system is provided for in class use. 

Price: $100.  Class is 1.5 hours long and meets once a week.

This class focuses on the properties of what makes a good song.  We will study popular and irregular songs with a focus on what makes them work.  (lyrics, melody, chord structure, form, mood, etc.)  

We will also write original songs of our own, and get the opportunity to perform and/or record them in a studio.

Price: $60.  Class is 1.0 hours long and meets once a week.
