Corey & Will Calhoun

Corey is a sought after drum & percussion instructor in the central NY area who teaches privately out of his father's music store, Gary's Music,  in Rome, NY.  Besides teaching, Corey can be heard drumming in any style from jazz, rock, hip-hop, world, and in between.  He has been studying and performing since he was a child and has been fortunate to work in many diverse genres with artists such as Marc Seales, Don Grusin, Edan, Emanuel Agbeli, Abu Bakari, Rick Montalbano, Joe Magnarelli and Jeff Palmer.


Corey is an 01' graduate of Berklee College of Music, and possesses a Masters degree in Jazz & Commercial Drumset Performance,  as well as a B.A./B.M. in Jazz Studies, and a Professional Diploma in West African percussion.  Corey is also an accomplished musician, educator and composer.  In addition to his studies, he has traveled to Ghana, West Africa, and studied traditional drumming at the Dagbe Cultural Institute.


When not in the lesson room, he teaches a variety of courses throughout upstate NY focused on improvisation, composition, drumset & percussion pedagogy, world percussion & more.  Corey also runs several popular ensembles such as the YCCA Rock Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, & African Drumming Ensemble & New Orleans Ensemble.  In the past, Corey has taught drums and percussion at North Shore Hebrew Academy in Great Neck, NY, Holy Cross Academy in Oneida, NY, and Don Bennett Drum Studio in Seattle, WA.


Corey has performed and recorded with several underground artists from all over the country including Cooter Stew, The Yarbles, Open Eliot, The Mohawk Valley Jazz Quintet, The Fading Collection, Swamiko, Fiber, Heatwarmer, Pitchbender 2000, GKoop, Victoria Davitt and Brian Kinsella.
